Guide to Electricity Bill Estimation in Malaysia

From 1 July 2025 TNB restructured the domestic tariff. The old tiered blocks (21.8 / 33.4 / 51.6 sen…) are gone — the bill is now built from separate components.

New Domestic Tariff Components (per kWh)

  • Energy (generation): 27.03 sen/kWh for usage up to 1,500 kWh (37.03 sen on any excess)
  • Capacity: 4.55 sen/kWh
  • Network: 12.85 sen/kWh
  • Retail: RM10/month — waived if you use 600 kWh or less

Energy Efficiency Incentive (EEI)

Households using 1,000 kWh or less get a tiered rebate — up to 25 sen/kWh on the first 200 kWh, tapering down the more you use. This is why lower usage is rewarded heavily.

Service tax of 8% applies only to consumption above 600 kWh. Your bill also moves each month with the AFA (Automatic Fuel Adjustment, up to ±3 sen/kWh), which replaced ICPT.
